April 8, 2016, 25 finalists have been selected from over 500 candidates to participate in the Eighth Three Shadows Photography Award (TSPA) exhibition.
2016 Three Shadows Photography Award International Jury includes QuentinBajac, Chief Curator of Photography Department, the Museum of Modern Art; WuHung, Harrie A. Vanderstappen Distinguished Service Professor and Director of Center for the Art of East Asia, the Univ. of Chicago; Satoshi Machiguchi, Director and Designer of MATCH and Company; RongRong, Founder and Director of Three Shadows Photography Art Centre; Philip Tinari, Director of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA). Each judges talked deeply to every participant artists face to face.
After intense deliberation by the International Jury Committee, 2016 Three Shadows Photography Award goes to Lam Pok Yin Jeff & Chong Ng; 2016 Shiseido Photographer Award winner goes to Wang Yan.
April 9, Three Shadows curator Chen Shen hosted the opening ceremony of 2016 TSPA exhibition. RongRong&inri made a speech and welcomed all the guests, and expressed their sincerely thankfulness to the individuals and instituions that have been supporting Three Shadows since the very begining. Quentin Bajac talked to the audience and thought highly of this year's TSPA's works and exhibtion. Satoshi Machiguchi, Philip Tinari gave their speeches about this year’s TSPA. Wu Hung memorized the long relationship between him and Three SHadows and blessed Three Shadows, afterwards he made the announcement of the winner and presented the medal and 80,000 RMB cash to the TSPA winner. The Shiseido Award winner medal and 20,000 cash was presented by Mimura Nobuko (Manager of Shiseido Corporate Culture Dept.). At the same time, The debut of Chinese Photobook Collction platinum prints edition, along with the opening of special exhibtions Luo Bonian & Yang Fudong also had the opening and exibited at +3 Gallery.The duration continues to June 3.
Before the opening, the TSPA International Jury Talk Series happened at Three Shadows' Multimedia room. Keiko Toyoda introduced the long history of Shiseido supporting arts; Quetin Bajac made a speech about the current situation of MoMA's photo exhibitions and introduced the outlook in the near future; Satoshi Machiguchi talked about the current Japanese photographers and photobooks and made comments on this year's TSPA artists; last but not the least, Wu Hung's lecture introduced the emerging subjectivity of Chinese photography back to the end of Qing Dynasty and early Minguo era. Meantime, the Photography Flea Market came to its 5th edition and was widely welcomed by the visitors.
